Most Gullah Geechee heirs remaining on St. Helena Island are living on property bestowed upon them by the forefathers & mothers freed in the 1860’s by the Emancipation Proclamation

Many homes are in horrible disrepair, due to financial disparity in the South Carolina Lowcountry

What’s important to them is retaining their family’s legacy - to remain on these properties without intimidation to sell

We believe that there are hundreds of homes in need of repair.
